I can’t prove it and I’m wary of asserting it too strongly because I would like it to be true, but I think a senior politician or party leader who was noticeably more candid than most, who admitted faults, said that not everything could be achieved, that politics is a difficult matter of choosing between conflicting priorities with finite resources, might find a surprising level of public support.
